T-League considerations

After an announcement from FFT today that left many asking what’s new we are keen to air a few queries of our own.

Firstly, let us state that we are firmly for a T-League. Having not been old enough to really immerse ourselves in the old State League we are eager to see a statewide competition get off the ground (as long as the right checks and balances are in place).

Having said that, once the league is announced as going ahead (which we expect to now happen at the end of July) more questions will arise.

How will player contracts work? How will clubs be protected? How will the competition be structured? Who can sponsor and what shirt real estate will be available to major club sponsors?

But more importantly we want to know if the very best players in our state will support the league? It stands to reason that crowds and sponsorship dollars will only grow if the quality of the product grows too and that will require concentration of Tasmania’s talent.

So here’s the big question, and it is for the players that are reading this that know and feel they are at the upper echelons of the game in our State.

If your current club did not make the T-League would you leave for one that did?

      Hi Swifts,

It’ll be out today! It’s always great to hear people look forward to seeing who made it. Thanks for the support.

      Cheers,

    TBP,

As a player old enough to have enjoyed the final few years of the old state league it is a no brainer for players. If you want to test yourself you need to play at the top level possible. This led to players moving from non state league clubs to play in the top flight in the past. And even more recently many players have left Div 1 sides to play at the top level that existed (SPL). Metro fans could name a full 11 and more I am sure – Corey, Sanders, Mckeown, Dawes…. this attitude wont, and shouldnt, change in the future.
It will hurt the clubs not included to some extent but players cant be blamed for wanting to play at the top level.

I just hope FFT get it over the line!

      Hi Ranga,

We completely agree with all that you have said here.

      Thanks for the comment.

i dont think you could use those players above from metro as an example as metro were in the top flight they just decided to move clubs

youre poll result outlines one of the big problems with football in this state: Too many unloyal glory hunters who hop from club to club. Watch them all flee from south hobart when morton leaves and things start to go downhill on the park.

      Hi Matt,

Surely you are not suggesting the players should stick with a club if opportunities are not forthcoming or development at said club is stymied? It would be a great shame if we put together a top tier competition that did not showcase the best talent we have in the State. Yes loyalty should be rewarded and encouraged but so should striving for excellence and personal development. We don’t expect professionals around the world to stay at the same club for their entire career so why should we expect that of local players?

      Thanks for the comment.

Just a question for TBP, do you guys think it would be a good idea to start the T-League in say October/November and play it over summer?

But players would only have a short break, 2-3 months.
